Catenary.

Op mijn modelbaan komt een niet werkend bovenleiding naar zowel Belgisch als Nederlands voorbeeld.

In de eind jaren 80 was ik begonnen met het maken van Nederlandse bovenleiding masten  uit plastic profielen, maar dit bleek niet stevig genoeg te zijn. Vandaar dat ik alweer enige jaren terug begonnen was met het maken van bovenleiding masten uit messing profielen.

Voor het Nederlandse gedeelte van de modelbaan heb ik vele masten, en rijdraden nodig. Vandaar het zelf bouwen van de bovenleiding. Op een van mijn vakanties naar Nederland heb ik een paar setjes van Sommerfeldt gekocht on als voorbeeld te dienen.

Voor het Belgische gedeelte heb ik slechts enige masten nodig dus die zijn allen gemaakt van Sommerfeldt bouwsets. De typisch Belgische rijdraden maak ik met gewoon Sommerfeldt rijdraden welke aangepast worden met materiaal uit nieuwzilver.

De masten zijn nog lang niet klaar, dus let op toekomstige up-dates.

Belgium  catenary, mast:
	After cleaning, the masts are spraypainted with primer and in the base color. Details like isolators and numbershields are hand painted.
	Here the single track mast.

	The overhang for multiple tracks, in this case three tracks.

	The height of the catenary looks alright to me. After all the mast is made according the Sommerfeldt instructions.
Belgium  catenary, wires:
	On eBay I came across a set of wires for a cool price. However they are open on one end, without support wires, so they have to be modified. A nice opportunity to go ahead and try to make them look like the Belgium wires.
	First I closed the open side and placed the support wires, so both ends are identical. I used the nickel silver for this, as it is the same material as the original Somerfeldt wires. On the photo above you see I used an old left over piece of wood to make a template, which allows me to quicken the job.
	On this photo you clearly see the lower wire which I soldered underneath the original Somerfeldt wire. This is a typical Belgium catenary wire detail.
Dutch catenary, mast:
	At first I wanted to make the isolators my self, but they can be purchased for just a few Dollars / Euros, and that safes a lot of work.
