This chapter is about my model layouts in HO scale.
Before I bought my own house I had no space for a model layout. This does not mean that I was actively involved with making a layout, pacifically my current module layout. These modules are 2 x 4 Ft. This allowed me to easily store and transport them when moving from one location to the other. And believe me I moved a lot in the past.
A move to a new home is bad for a permanent build model layout. The model layout will have to be disassembled or even destroyed if it was not made carefully, and with a future move planned. The difference with my modules compared to those in a club, is that my modules only fit with each other, I have not build it to a particular standard.
I refer to this as "a permanent module layout". How I attach all the modules depends on the available space. At this time I have installed this module layout on a height of 5 Ft. This is roughly eye-sight level. To make it fit in the room I have made two corner modules and removable sections. The whole module layout is 12 x 16 Ft.
I also made a modulle totaling 3 x 8 Ft. This will become a repairshop or museum. When I designed this one I was thinking to add it in the excisting modulle layout, but after I bought my house, it will become part of the big layout.
To test self build electronics a few years ago, I made a small lay-out. I don't have this one any more, thanks to a previous move to a smaller apartment. I do have some photo's from this, and other old lay-outs, which are posted in a article on this site. Also a layout for a friend, is listed in a article, but unfortunately my friend got in problems and this lay-out never came to an end, and don't exist anymore.
The track plans are designed with Atlas Right Track software. You can download this for free at the Atlas website. I paid $34.95 for this software 6 weeks before it became available for free! Structure templates from Walthers, DPM and others are included. This program includes files for N, HO and O scale.
