Technology and the model railroad.
Model railroad is a interesting hobby.
Everyone involved with this hobby has his own skills and
knowledge in his own field. One is good with theory, and one is
more skilled with the practical aspects. Without any technical
knowledge, one can enjoy a model layout. For each technical
gadget, there is a company supplying the modelers need. However
for self (re) building off certain model items, troubleshooting
and repair of defective items, knowing the basics of various
techniques is a plus.
Theory is needed when designing and troubleshooting, the later
will happen with every modeler. Electronics, carpentry,
painting, and working with special tools, are examples of
practical skills.
Reading magazines and books gives a lot of information about our
hobby. But what to do when you run into a problem and you don't
know the answer? Luckily there is the INTERNET. Many railroad
website's have a forum. On a forum you are able to ask (post) a
question, and in a few days you may have an answer, since many
readers, and members, from that forum will read your question.
On this page I show a few articles, which belong under the
heading technology. For learning electronics and how to use specialized tools, I
advise to check on the World Wide Web, there will be plenty
site's to visit.
